Set in the woods near a large salt water pond, this house was designed to resemble a large New England style barn. In the interior, the building form allows a double height living room with views to the pond and out to the gardens. Every room has windows on three sides for varying views and light. The living spaces include public and private living rooms, library and dining rooms that are linked by a long art gallery. How to add on to a Victorian style house and adapt it to a modern live style? The architects designed a house that presents a Victorian facade on the exterior, but on the inside is completely modern. Large airy rooms open on to each other and end in an open kitchen and conservatory. The L shaped plan wraps around an exterior terrace, and orients toward the garden. The contemporary energy conservation means include a geothermal system. This house was published in Victorian Home Magazine. For a vacation home, a plan that enables an open easy lifestyle is desirable. The architects provided this by designing an open loft style interior with all the public rooms oriented along a large deck overlooking the view. Bright colorful walls and trim allow simple furnishings and create a cheerful atmosphere. This shingle style house alludes to the old shingle style houses of New England, interpreted to a modern expression. The interior is playful, with windows opening up into double height spaces, curving sculptural elements, and stairs leading to an interior tree house. Lisa Reindorf contributed to the design of this house in New York. The exterior lights up like a lantern at night. This new house was designed to create a comfortable and open environment for a large family. The floor plan is organized around a central axis that begins at the entrance to the home and links public rooms, ending at a large living area overlooking the deck and pool.
